Bike Parking on Duckworth Dock

The Duckworth Dock received another upgrade just in time for the end of summer!

Lloyd’s own swimming hole is now more accessible with the addition of 10 new bike racks. Human Access Project led the effort, in collaboration with the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) and Portland Parks & Recreation, with Go Lloyd providing funding to bring this project to fruition. This upgrade is a continuation of our 2020 investment to the Duckworth Dock and we were happy to work with Human Access Project once again to help improve this walkable and bikeable destination within the Lloyd neighborhood.

Grab your helmet and your swimsuit and check it out for yourself! The dock is accessible via the Eastside Esplanade, just south of the Steel Bridge on the east side of the Willamette River.

More Garbage Cans In Lloyd

Go Lloyd's Public Place Garbage Can Program continued to grow in 2021. May saw the addition of 12 new garbage cans across the Lloyd neighborhood. The art adorning each of these garbage cans was designed by seniors from Benson High School's Digital Media Arts Program. The students earned work experience and money while helping to beautify the neighborhood and keep it litter-free.

Go Lloyd wants to thank all of our artists and the City of Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability for all your contributions to this project!

New Garbage Cans In Lloyd

Go Lloyd’s continued commitment to keeping our neighborhood litter free got a big boost this fall with the installation of 30 new garbage cans! After the success of our partnership with the City of Portland in 2019, Go Lloyd was able to expand the program in 2020, almost doubling the number of new cans installed. This year we continued our partnership with the Portland Street Art Alliance and worked with artist Mia Nolting, who provided a series of designs that now adorn 10 new garbage cans located around the Oregon Convention Center. Go Lloyd also worked with Benson High School seniors in Steve Curley’s Digital Media Arts class on the designs for an additional 20 cans that can be found on NE Multnomah St. and around Holladay Park. You can read more about our work with Benson High School in the Portland Public Schools newsletter.

Go Lloyd wants to thank all of our artists, the Portland Street Art Alliance, City of Portland and Chick of all Trades for all your contributions to this project!

Duckworth Dock Gets New Swim Ladders

Go Lloyd was very excited to work with Human Access Project this summer to help create a world-class outdoor swimming area right here in the Lloyd neighborhood. Funding from Go Lloyd paid for the installation of eight new swim ladders on the Duckworth Dock. The new swim ladders helped transform the dock from an under-utilized moorage for boats into a popular summer escape for swimmers and sunbathers. The dock is accessible via the Eastside Esplanade, just south of the Steel Bridge on the east side of the Willamette River. Human Access Project hosted a few socially distanced parties to celebrate the new dock this summer. Check the photos and links below to learn more.

Returning to Transit? Here's How to Ride Safely

2020-06 TriMet Safety.png

Multnomah County entered Phase 1 of reopening on Friday, June 19. For some, this reopening might also involve returning to transit for the first time in months. While you’ve been away, TriMet has made changes to help you get where you need to go safely.

When riding transit, remember:

  • Face coverings are required on board all buses and trains

    • Disposable face coverings are available

  • Seating is limited and service is reduced

    • Allow for extra time and check for schedule updates

  • Use Hop to pay your fare (no cash is accepted on buses)

  • Wash your hands frequently and avoid touching your face

    • Hand sanitizer dispensers are being installed on all buses and trains

  • Keep six feet apart whenever possible

Learn more about these important changes and other safety measures here.

We Got Rolling (Again) with BIKETOWN

Over a dozen people came out on a sunny Sunday afternoon for our Get Rolling! (Again) workshop with BIKETOWN! Maria Sipin, community organizer and transportation planner, shared best practices around urban riding and facilitated a great conversation with attendees. We followed up the discussion with a ride through the Lloyd neighborhood, checking out different types of bike infrastructure and stopping at Bike Farm, a DIY volunteer-run bike repair shop. Many thanks to BIKETOWN for organizing and getting everyone set up with bikes, and to Maria for sharing her knowledge and passion with us.

These classes are taught by The Street Trust’s education staff and organized in partnership with Commute Options and the Lane Council of Governments. This class is based on the Bicycle Friendly Driver program developed by FC Bikes in collaboration with Bike Fort Collins.

The Oregon Friendly Driver class addresses:

• Why bicyclists “take the lane” and what motorists should do in response

• How to navigate bicycle and pedestrian related infrastructure such as: sharrows, bike boxes, green lanes, and rapid flashing beacons

eBay Foundation Awards Lloyd EcoDistrict Grant

Special Announcement

Lloyd EcoDistrict announced on September 5, 2018, "that it is the recipient of a $20,000 grant from the eBay Foundation. The funds will be used to help launch Lloyd Delivers, the Lloyd EcoDistrict-led initiative that promotes upstream and downstream solutions to food waste and hunger starting in the Lloyd neighborhood and at eBay Portland's Downtown office.

Lloyd Delivers enables real choices that reduce waste and greenhouse gases while fighting hunger in Portland. When companies participate in Lloyd Delivers, office and event managers are able to make important choices about how their food is catered and leftovers are used to benefit the community.

Through our partnership with Portland Pedal Power, companies have superior catering choices for employee meetings and special events. All food is locally-sourced from a full range of Portland restaurants and bakeries. Meals are delivered sustainably by Portland Pedal Power’s familiar fleet of specially-designed cargo bikes. By choosing to cater with Portland Pedal Power, companies may select family style food packaging, eliminating the need for unnecessary packaging and waste. Finally, the company is able to donate high-quality leftover food to nonprofits that fight food insecurity including Portland Rescue Mission or New Avenues for Youth .

Lloyd Delivers will be powered by Move Food, a system that takes the complexity out of connecting businesses with fresh quality prepared foods to organizations and individuals who need it. Move Food’s simple-to-use app gives people who want to do some good in their community an easy way to get involved by volunteering to move food from a point of waste to a place of need. The Lloyd Delivers initiative will help evolve the Move Food platform so that it can be used in other communities and made available to other organizations addressing food insecurity.

In addition to the grant from the eBay Foundation, eBay will contribute to Lloyd Delivers by providing volunteer tech assistance from developers who will share their expertise to help improve the Move Food mobile app. eBay’s Portland office is dedicated to the advancement of mobile technologies, making this an ideal partnership.

Lloyd Delivers is a partnership among Lloyd EcoDistrict, eBay Foundation, Portland Pedal Power, and Move Food.  It is an excellent example of how successful partnerships among resourceful and innovative organizations can lead to new opportunities. Lloyd EcoDistrict is in the business of creating these kinds of partnerships and launching sustainable solutions that others can emulate."

Oregon Convention Center Interior and Plaza Renovation

Oregon Convention Center interior and plaza renovation project to begin next month.

The Oregon Convention Center (OCC) of 28 years will complete a series of updates to interior spaces, as well as significant modifications and improvements to the north plaza. Work is scheduled to begin in September 2018.

The OCC’s north plaza at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr Blvd and Holladay streets will be renovated to provide more flexible and usable space for clients, as well as to improve wayfinding for adjacent hotel guests and public transit commuters from the MAX station to the building's main entries.

The OCC team believes, and recent convention bookings are proving, that the Hyatt Regency Portland at the Oregon Convention Center will attract more conventions resulting in increased business in the Lloyd Neighborhood. Already, 31 conventions have chosen Portland after construction began on the Hyatt Regency Portland hotel last year. The conventions combined represent approximately 140,000 room-nights, which will bring about $115 million in economic impact to the region.

The renovation general contractor competitive selection resulted in what is believed to be the largest Oregon public improvement contract for which a minority-owned firm was selected as the prime contractor. Colas Construction is the general contractor for this nearly $30 million project.

The renovation project is planned to conclude in fall 2019, a few months prior to the opening of the Hyatt Regency Portland. To keep you comprised of construction developments, OCC staff created a webpage that you can reference throughout the process.
