Oregon Convention Center Interior and Plaza Renovation

Oregon Convention Center interior and plaza renovation project to begin next month.

The Oregon Convention Center (OCC) of 28 years will complete a series of updates to interior spaces, as well as significant modifications and improvements to the north plaza. Work is scheduled to begin in September 2018.

The OCC’s north plaza at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr Blvd and Holladay streets will be renovated to provide more flexible and usable space for clients, as well as to improve wayfinding for adjacent hotel guests and public transit commuters from the MAX station to the building's main entries.

The OCC team believes, and recent convention bookings are proving, that the Hyatt Regency Portland at the Oregon Convention Center will attract more conventions resulting in increased business in the Lloyd Neighborhood. Already, 31 conventions have chosen Portland after construction began on the Hyatt Regency Portland hotel last year. The conventions combined represent approximately 140,000 room-nights, which will bring about $115 million in economic impact to the region.

The renovation general contractor competitive selection resulted in what is believed to be the largest Oregon public improvement contract for which a minority-owned firm was selected as the prime contractor. Colas Construction is the general contractor for this nearly $30 million project.

The renovation project is planned to conclude in fall 2019, a few months prior to the opening of the Hyatt Regency Portland. To keep you comprised of construction developments, OCC staff created a webpage that you can reference throughout the process.
