TDM WEEK 2026: THE POWER OF TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS
Every day, we depend on different transportation options to get us where we need to go. Here at Go Lloyd, we use our resources to create programs and inventives that encourage transportation options outside of drive-alone trips. This is what is known as Transportation Demand Management (TDM).
This week (September 14-18) is TDM Week 2026! This week we celebrate the work that TDM’s across the country do to create accessible, affordable, and equitable transportation options that improve our cities.
WHAT IS TDM?
Transportation Demand Management (TDM) is the practice of providing residents, employees, commuters, and visitors with resources, programs, and incentives to take transportation options like walking, cycling, public transportation, carpool, and more, while discouraging drive-alone trips.
THE BENEFITS OF TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS
Having multiple different options for how you get around has numerous benefits on an individual and societal level. Active transportation options such as walking and biking can better connect you with your city and community, while performing daily exercise to improve your physical health. Public transportation options give you time back to yourself, giving you the ability to read, catch up on work, or just relax and decompress. These transportation options also contribute significantly less carbon emissions, lowering your carbon footprint.
The less cars we have on the road, the fewer chances there are for traffic fatalities, overall congestion on the road, and the more money and greenhouse gasses we can save in the process. More transportation options also mean better transportation equity, giving freedom in transportation choices to every citizen, regardless of socio-economic status.
HOW GO LLOYD PRACTICES TDM
Go Lloyd is your local TDM right here in the Lloyd District. Operating as a non-profit, we use our resources to re-invest in our community through funded programs and events that encourage transportation methods like transit-riding, biking, and walking. Our transit programs provide free and subsidized annual TriMet Hop passes to low-income residents and businesses in Lloyd, to encourage using transit as a commuting option to work. Our bicycle-focused events give free workshops, bike tune-ups, and free fender installation before each rainy season to empower cyclists to keep cycling through the rainy season.
