2023 Walking Meeting Challenge

Steptember is back!

During the entire month of September, participate in Go Lloyd’s Walking Meeting Challenge and be entered to win a $100 gift card to Metropolitan Tavern!

Get outside and explore the neighborhood, visit other floors in your building (or home), and if you can't leave the room, start with a few minutes of walking in place to get that blood flowing.

To be entered, follow these simple steps:

1. Take your meeting for a walk—inside or outside, as long as you’re walking/rolling.

2. Take a photo or short video during your meeting (just your feet or your view counts).

3. Post the photo or video on social media and tag @golloydpdx with #Steptember

Each post counts as one entry. A random winner will be chosen from all eligible entries at the end of the month.

Join us at our other Steptember events all month long.

Blumenauer Bridge Opening Day Celebration!

It was great to see so many Portlanders come out in support of yesterday’s Opening Celebration of the Congressman Earl Blumenauer Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge!

A HUGE “Thank you!” to Congressman Earl Blumenauer, Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty, Kimberly Branam, and Lloyd’s own, Wade Lange, Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT), and our partners, the Central Eastside Industrial Council, The Street Trust, Friends of the Green Loop, and Prosper Portland.

Despite the heat, friends and neighbors joined together for a fun, car-free day celebrating our communities and this new, important connection between Lloyd and the Central Eastside. Not only does the Blumenauer Bridge provide a safe and easy crossing for people walking, biking, and rolling between these two great neighborhoods, it will also serve as an important segment of the future Green Loop.

Go Lloyd is proud to have helped fund the construction of this transformative piece of infrastructure and we are happy to underwrite the cost of the pedestrian and bike counter that will be added to the plaza at the north end of the bridge (stay tuned!).

We’d like to extend a special shout out to all those who helped make the Lloyd Block Party at Hassalo Plaza such a success—Friends of the Green Loop, PBOT, Kuto, the Garrett Baxter Quartet, PDX Mobile Bike Repair, The Bookmobile Babe, Staccato Gelato, Yeah Mon Food, FoodiMenus, 40 Mile Loop Land Trust, and especially Congressman Earl Blumenauer and Commissioner Mingus Mapps (Thanks for leading our parade to the bridge, Commissioner Mapps!).

Finally, thank you to all attendees and vendors for sticking it out in the heat and helping to create such a positive atmosphere all day long.

What a fantastic way to celebrate Bridge City’s newest bridge!

Earl Blumenauer Bridge Preview

Go Lloyd recently organized a preview tour of the new Congressman Earl Blumenauer Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge, or “The Earl,” as it is affectionately known. This key piece of infrastructure will provide a much-needed pedestrian and bicycle connection between the Lloyd neighborhood and the Central Eastside, and serve as an important segment of Portland’s Green Loop.

A big “Thank you!” to Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) for giving us this unique opportunity.

We look forward to the bridge opening later this year. Stay tuned for more details.

More Garbage Cans In Lloyd

Go Lloyd's Public Place Garbage Can Program continued to grow in 2021. May saw the addition of 12 new garbage cans across the Lloyd neighborhood. The art adorning each of these garbage cans was designed by seniors from Benson High School's Digital Media Arts Program. The students earned work experience and money while helping to beautify the neighborhood and keep it litter-free.

Go Lloyd wants to thank all of our artists and the City of Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability for all your contributions to this project!

New Garbage Cans In Lloyd

Go Lloyd’s continued commitment to keeping our neighborhood litter free got a big boost this fall with the installation of 30 new garbage cans! After the success of our partnership with the City of Portland in 2019, Go Lloyd was able to expand the program in 2020, almost doubling the number of new cans installed. This year we continued our partnership with the Portland Street Art Alliance and worked with artist Mia Nolting, who provided a series of designs that now adorn 10 new garbage cans located around the Oregon Convention Center. Go Lloyd also worked with Benson High School seniors in Steve Curley’s Digital Media Arts class on the designs for an additional 20 cans that can be found on NE Multnomah St. and around Holladay Park. You can read more about our work with Benson High School in the Portland Public Schools newsletter.

Go Lloyd wants to thank all of our artists, the Portland Street Art Alliance, City of Portland and Chick of all Trades for all your contributions to this project!

Oregonians Crossing: Every Intersection is a Crosswalk

Pedestrian safety isn't just for those walking. The majority of pedestrian-involved motor vehicle crashes are a result of the failure of drivers to yield to the pedestrian as required by law. Under Oregon Law, there is a crosswalk at every intersection, whether that intersection is marked with a crosswalk or not. Drivers should stop, and stay stopped, until the person(s) walking has cleared the lane the driver is traveling in and the next lane over.Drivers are not allowed to pass another vehicle stopped a crosswalk. In fact, if a car is stopped at a crosswalk, it's a clue that they may be waiting for someone to cross.
