Green Zebra and American Assets Trust have teamed up with City Repair and the Lloyd EcoDistrict to "adopt" and create a "pollinator corridor" on NE Multnomah St between NE 7th and 9th Ave. 

What is a pollinator corridor?

Pollinator corridors are a concept to bring pollinator friendly plants to urban areas, typically in planting strips or planters on a public street. Bees are pollinators and are an important part of our ecosystem and agricultural systems. 75% of all plants require bees for pollination including most of our food. Bee populations have steadily been declining and pollinator corridors in cities are a way to help our bee friends stay alive and well. Several US cities have begun to develop pollinator corridors in response to this need, this would be Portland's first. 

We will planting native perennials in the planters in the buffer of the protected bikeway which, once established will require much less watering and maintenance than the annuals. For this portion of the corridor we will be planting:

• Kinnikinnick
• Yarrow
• Red Twig Dogwood
• Milkweed
• Salal

We hope to be able to get full planter sponsorship from NE 15th to the Moda Center on this very fun, community and bug building opportunity. A big thanks to American Assets Trust and Green Zebra Grocery for being the first ones to say yes!
